It is probably unique in the world that a single village gave birth to both the spiritual and secular leaders: the supreme head of the church and the president of the state. Namely, Velika Drenova is the birthplace of the writer, academician, and first president of the Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia, Dobrica Ćosić. Velika Drenova is also the hometown of Patriarch German, who led the Serbian Orthodox Church for 32 years, from 1958 to 1990, when he was succeeded by Patriarch Pavle.
